Established in 2025, and led by renowned German patent litigator Dr Andreas Kramer, Powell Gilbert’s Düsseldorf office has a wealth of experience in high-profile cross-border patent disputes, particularly in the fields of electronics and telecommunications (including SEP/FRAND disputes), as well as mechanics, life sciences and medical devices.
The team represent clients before all levels of the German courts and the EPO (as well as the UPC). With many years of experience before the infringement courts particularly in Düsseldorf, Mannheim, Munich and Hamburg, at first instance and on appeal, as well as before the Federal Patent Court and Federal Supreme Court, the team routinely advise clients in developing and implementing both German and multinational patent litigation strategies.
In relation to SEP/FRAND disputes, the team’s experience covers a broad range of standardised technologies – including 2G-5G SEPs as well as various audio and video codecs – and from both the implementer and patentee perspective. With experience from working on many of the most important cases in this sector, the team are perfectly placed to navigate this fast-developing and complex area of law.
