Hannes is a German attorney, admitted to the bar in 2012, and a registered UPC Representative. He has experience in a broad range of areas of intellectual property law, with a particular focus on representing and advising national and international clients in contentious and non-contentious patent matters, in all fields of technology.

His experience spans representing clients before the German patent infringement courts, at first instance and on appeal, including advising on and co-ordinating Supreme Court proceedings, representing clients in national patent invalidity proceedings and supporting in proceedings before the EPO. He is also experienced in representing clients before the UPC, both at first instance and on appeal.

Hannes also has acted in preliminary injunction proceedings, before the German courts and the UPC, trade fair matters (assertion of patents, advice and pre-emptive measures against assertion of patents, measures for preservation of evidence), border seizures. He frequently works in co-ordinating international, cross-border litigation teams as well as in conducting and advising on enforcement of court decisions.

A significant focus of Hannes’s work over the past few years has been in patent infringement proceedings involving Standard Essential Patents, including FRAND and antitrust aspects, as well as advising on licensing negotiations in the mobile device sector, including cellular technology, audio standards and video standards. Hannes was heavily involved in the case between OPPO and Panasonic before the Mannheim Local Division of the UPC that led to the first SEP/FRAND judgment of the UPC.

Hannes also has experience in patent disputes concerning the life sciences sector, including medical devices, as well as in disputes relating to patents in the fields of general mechanics, automotives and robotics.
